Less crowded: Compared to Cancun or Playa del Carmen, Costa Mujeres is a quieter and less crowded destination. This can be great for families. Playa del Carmen is a little less touristy, a bit more adventurous, and has better access to the region's attractions. Playacar area is all sand and calmer waters. My choice would be the Playacar area. Lots of things to do within walking distance.
